Happy New year Pjotr! Good to see you're enjoying Issyk Kul, Karen told me with your son as well?

So, I believe this bird is a black-necked grebe. Slavonians in winter have a clearly defined black-white head-pattern and the red eye sits right between both line, whereas this bird had more black, which is also more diffused. The shape of its forehead (very steep) also seems distinctive of the black-necked. Just my thoughts. Take care!

Hi Philippe! Happy new year as well! Yes, we were really enjoying being with our son. we rented a car and drove to Bokonbaeva. Thanks for your comment. I think you are right, I was only looking at the crest, which had to be a sort peak in the middle of the head. But I will change in Black necked,

Thanks!

Peter
